GEAR UP
GEAR-UP is a school-based support programme at Broadrick that helps at-risk students build resilience and stay connected to school through coaching, sports, mentoring, and community partnerships.
The GEAR-UP (Guiding & Empowering Students for Affiliation & Resilience to Unlock their Potential) Programme @ Broadrick is a school-based integrated support programme to enhance student’s learning motivation, strengthen their school connectedness and build their resilience.
Purpose
Part of the educational support programme under ST2, targeting the socio-emotional needs of High Needs Students (HNS), particularly those who are vulnerable, at-risk, or high-risk, to prevent them from falling through the cracks in the education system.
Tiered System of Support
Tier 1: Normal students.
Tier 2A: Vulnerable students.
Tier 2B: At-risk students.
Tier 3: High-risk students.
Operational Team includes:
2 CAJTs (Educational Support).
2 FAJTs (GEAR UP).
1 Lead SENO.
1 SWO.
1 ST/Ed Support.
Programme Framework:
GRC Value-Based Coaching (during school hours, whitespaces).
GRC SMART Experience (after school hours or during holidays):
Focus on sports, mentoring, life skills, technical skills, and recreational activities.
Student Identification Process:
Data from primary schools and Ministry of Education (MOE) via School Cockpit.
Diagnostic observation by Form Teachers (FTs) and Year Heads (YHs).
Referrals from various support teams and community service partners.
Student Monitoring and Progress:
Utilizes MOE’s Student Monitoring Tool (SMT).
Integrated Monitoring Tool combining GRC experience feedback, attendance, and school conduct grades.
Fluid movement across support tiers based on students’ evolving needs.
Programme Effectiveness Review:
Semi-annual feedback group discussions (FGD).
Pre/Post GEAR UP student surveys.
Analysis of holistic conduct grades and academic progress.
GRC SMART Framework:
Sport-based programs (soccer, volleyball, etc.).
Mentoring (service learning).
Aesthetic programs (art therapy).
Recreational activities (The Hangout Club).
Technical skills development (life skills, career workshops).
Partnerships for 2024:
Comlink Plus/CAWG (Community Action for the Welfare of the Generations)
Involves SSOs (Social Service Offices) and FSCs (Family Service Centers).
Provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for vulnerable, at-risk, and high-risk students.
Harvest Community Services
Offers programs like volleyball and holiday activities.
Engages students in community service efforts as part of broader development goals.
Touch Community Services
Partners for the Hangout Club, which is focused on recreational and mentoring activities.
Joint membership with YouthPhoria, another initiative providing Tier 3 support for high-risk students.
Morning Star Community Services
Supports Tier 2 students through tailored interventions.
Facilitates parenting workshops, providing holistic support to the student and their family.

These organizations provide assistance through programs like Project Bridge and VPSS (Vocational Preparation and Social Skills), focused on at-risk youth.
D2D Sports Academy
Contributes to Tier 2 support by providing sports-based programs to engage students in physical activities that build teamwork and discipline.
These partnerships are designed to enhance the support framework for students, offering a variety of programs, ranging from academic and emotional support to recreational, sports, and community service activities.
